Schedule of Events

Please check back here often as our 2009 appearance schedule detail continues to be updated as performance dates are confirmed. Many of our appearances are repetitive requests from the prior years. We are showing  2008 and 2009 reservations as reference points.  Dates will be filled in as appearances are confirmed.

2009  
Jan 5th
Regular weekly rehearsal schedule resumes every Monday night at 8 P.M. at our new "home" in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Jan 23rd

Band Committee Meeting. 8 PM. At Frank's house.
May 16th (Saturday) Great Kills Memorial Day Parade. Step off time is 11 A.M. sharp. Arrival time is 10 A.M. for band members.
2008  
Jan 7th Regular weekly rehearsal schedule resumes every Monday night at 8 P.M.
Mar 9th (Sunday) St. Patrick's Day Parade down Forest Avenue. Step off time is 12:30 sharp. Line up time is Noon. Line up is in the area of Gregg Place on Hart off of Forest Avenue. Look around for the rest of the Band - exact line up spot will be determined by the parade marshals when we arrive . Be early and expect heavy traffic. Members wear warm layers of clothing UNDER your red uniform jacket.
May 10th (Saturday) Outdoor Concert Performance at the Bethel United Methodist Church grounds for their Spring Fair. We expect that we will play a set around 11 A.M. and repeat the performance around 12:15.  Band members are asked to arrive by 10:45 to set up.
May 17th (Saturday) Great Kills Memorial Day Parade. Step off time is 11 A.M. sharp. Arrival time is 10 A.M. for band members.
May 24th (Saturday) U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Annual Memorial Day Services. Start time is 10 A.M. sharp. Band members are asked to arrive no later then 9:45 A.M. This is a sit down performance where we will play marches, the National Anthem, and Taps for their service. The memorial services will be approximately 30 minutes with refreshments before and after the ceremony.
May 25th (Sunday) Rahway Memorial Day Parade at Rahway City Hall. Step off time is 1:30PM sharp. Carpools leaving Tottenville no later then 12:30.
June 7th (Saturday) Date released for band members/no parade
June 22nd

 

(Sunday) Westerleigh Park - Patriotic Sunday Annual Concert. 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. sponsored by the Westerleigh Improvement Society.  Band members please arrive by 1:30 PM. To get to Westerleigh Park from Victory Blvd. turn down Jewett Avenue, make a left onto Maine Avenue and you will come directly to the park straight ahead. 
July 4th (Friday) Travis Fourth of July Celebration. The South Shore Band will perform sitting down near the reviewing stand and will play before the parade beginning ceremonies and again afterwards until the front of the parade loops back through the route to the reviewing stand. Access roads close at 11:15 A.M. Band members need to be sure to be seated by 11:30.
ALL SUMMER Regular weekly rehearsals continue throughout the summer months. If for any particular week there will be a significant number of members on vacation we may elect to cancel that particular Monday night's rehearsal. 
July 19th (Saturday) Band Picnic for band members/families, and invited guests. From 1P.M. on... Held at Tom's house in Tottenville. Please save the date. Bring your lawn chairs, swim suit, and look forward to a fun day (and into the evening/night till we all get too tired of partying). 
Aug 22nd (Friday Evening) South Shore Band Pops Concert at Snug Harbor. 7:30 concert time. Band member must arrive on stage by 6:45 PM. The public is invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy this free performance at the South Meadow Stage. 
Oct 4th (Saturday afternoon) - Oktoberfest music at Tottenville Library - Amboy Road, Tottenvlle. 2:30 PM for a 45 minute performance. Our 10 - 12 piece German Band contingent will perform this event Only those members playing with the group need to mark this date. Other members will be notified if they are needed for this performance. Band member please arrive by 2:10.
Oct 5th (Sunday) Annual Columbus Day Parade in New Dorp. Step off is 1 PM. Line up is at New Dorp High School. 
Oct 10th (Friday) Band Member Appreciation Dinner at the Old Bermuda Inn by reservation and member invitation only. 7:30 PM. Please contact Tom for further details. Reservation arrangements are first come-first serve due to seating limitations and must be made no later then Monday, Sept 29th. Costs and invited guest details to follow. 
Oct 25th (Saturday evening) - Oktoberfest at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Richmond Avenue. Our 12 piece German Band contingent will perform this event Only those members playing with the group last year need to mark this date. Other members will be notified if they are needed for this performance. Band member arrives at 6:30. We will eat dinner at 7 and start playing by 7:30.
Dec 5th (Friday) Annual Holiday Concert - 8 P.M. curtain time at Bernstein I.S. #7, Huguenot Ave. & Hylan Blvd.
